Digital Photography & Imaging - Week 3

Lecture
Our lecture for this week introduced us to the three tools that we will be primarily using for this course. The Lasso Tool, Pen Tool, and the Layers feature.

Lasso Tool:

- A tool that allows for us to draw and outline around specific elements that we want to use from an image and extract them out, allowing for us to rearrange it and use it however we envision.

Pen Tool:

- A tool that allows for us to create points around an image through clicking and dragging. This tool is great for curved surfaces that may be difficult to outline with the lasso tool. The fewer points we have with this tool, the smoother it'll look.

- The pen tool also has a feature known as the Magic Wand, which automatically highlights specific areas and deletes them. This is a great feature for when you need to remove a background and create a transparent png. It is not very effective for specific details however as the computer has to calculate what becomes highlighted.

Layers:
- Layers are different images stacked on top of each other, with the top-most image being upfront. We can interact and edit each layer individually without affecting any other layer. We can also hide unnecessary layers while working.

Tutorial

For our tutorial we were introduced to the second half of our first assignment, which is to create a digital version of our collage using the images provided by the lecturer.

Practical
Our practical work for this week was to create three compositions digitally using a set of images that the lecturer provided us. He would then select the best looking one for us to submit as our final submission for this assignment.

1. COMPOSITION #1

2. COMPOSITION #2

3. COMPOSITION #3
