Digital Photography & Imaging - Week 7
Lecture
Our lecture for this week introduced us to Double Exposure, which is the technique of merging multiple images together. The goal for this technique can be used in many ways, such as being used to create surreal, emotional, or humorous pieces. They usually feature silhouettes in the piece.
While creating double exposure pieces may look difficult, they're actually quite simple as you can easily recreate the effects on photoshop without the need of a double exposure camera.
Tutorial
Our tutorial showed us the main tools that we would be using to create the double exposure effects on photoshop. The process that we were introduced to was surprising less complicated than expected and I found it to be rather interesting to try out other tools in photoshop.
Practical
Our practical for this week had us use what we learned from our tutorial and create our own double exposure pieces. This practical was split into two exercise, Exercise 1 had us follow the instructions and recreate the double exposure piece that was used in the tutorial while Exercise 2 had us create our own double exposure composition using our own images.
Exercise 1: Double Exposure Tutorial Recreation
I had a lot of fun creating this composition since we were given so much creative liberty. When we were told that we could do this exercise in any way we wanted my mind immediately wanted to include my cowboy hat as I felt that I could create a unique shape using the outline. After I came up with the idea in my head, I gathered my clothes and built an outfit despite most of it not showing up in the actual composition. I do feel that I could have done more with the background and made it less bland however I was fully satisfied with what I already had and my lecturer liked it as well.
