REFLECTION
Experience
My experience with Advanced Typography was fairly interesting to say the least, I found this module to be surprisingly better overall than the first Typography module which is interesting considering the fact that we had much more work for this module in my opinion. However I believe that my enjoyment of this module was due to the amount of creative freedom we were given compared to the previous typography module which felt more restrictive. I found the tasks we had to do for this module to be very interesting as well, especially Task 2B and the font application part of Task 3 since those were the most creative areas in my opinion. I would say my opinion on typography as a whole has changed with this module, to my surprise I find it pretty interesting and I do see how people can enjoy this line of work. I hope to use the knowledge that I've learned in this class in the future with whatever typeface I end up designing either for myself or for others.
Observations
Through the 14 weeks that we had for this class, I came to understand the applicability of typefaces and how versatile they can become when done correctly. I also feel that my knowledge with typography as a whole has improved because of this module as I've been advising my father on the typefaces used for upcoming projects that he's working on and seeing if they work with what they're presenting or not.
Findings
Having completed both typography courses, I've come to understand how much importance typography can play in the work that we do as it can help define characteristics and tone of an overall piece of work. Not only that, but I've come to see and understand the placement and alignment of typography in the real world and finally realising the reasons why they chose to use that specific typeface or that specific placement for their work. I've also started becoming able to notice differences in quality when it comes to typography though I do struggle with it sometimes. Overall, I found this course to be less stressful that expected for the most part and I somewhat enjoyed it.
