Task 1, 2, 3 and Final Task - Design Research Dissertation Compilation

INSTRUCTIONS

PRACTICAL
Task 1: Dissertation Draft
For our first task in this module, we had to write a minimum 7000 word dissertation about our topic and research that we conducted in Design Research Methodology.

Task 2: Visual Design
For the second task of this module, we had to create a visual design for our dissertation by turning it into a flipbook styled paper, on top of that the visual design and aesthetic has to match and share a similar theme with the dissertation's topic. Because my dissertation is on indigenous cultures and representation, I decided to try and create a design using elements that they would have used in the past to create books. I used buckskin as the cover and parchment for the pages so that it would look old and not as pristine as using modern-day day paper.

Final Task: Research for Article Publication
The final task for this module was to convert our dissertation into a short article publication that essentially summarizes everything.

REFLECTION

I actually really enjoyed this module, I like writing a lot but having to write a roughly 7000 word essay was a new experience for me. I've done 4000 word essays before in high school so I figured this shouldn't be as difficult especially since it's on a topic that I'm actually interested in which made the process more bearable. I do wish I spent more time working on the survey last semester and added in more questions related to the design elements in indigenous characters rather than asking for their opinions on them. But besides that, I enjoyed writing this dissertation although I was quite late with some of the submissions. Designing the visual layout for my dissertation was quite fun as we had to make the design fit with our topic so I decided to have mine be made with materials that indigenous cultures would have used back then to create a book, such as parchment for the pages and buckskin for the cover.
