As someone who has played this game since it first came out, I am quite familiar with it and have already had many ideas about original characters, but I have never had the time to truly flesh them out. For Task 1, we had to start by creating and coming up with the concepts for our character. I decided to make my character be an Eremite commando and respected warrior inspired by the Fremen from the Dune series as I was obsessed with the franchise at the time. From there I started collecting reference photos for what I wanted to have in my character's design. Figure 1.1: Character References I also wanted for my character to have some connections to one of...

Character Design - Lecture Notes

25.04.2024 - DD.MM.YYYY / Week 01 - Week ?? Ilhan Rayan bin Khairul Anwar / 0361205 Character Design / Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Creative Media Lecture Notes Week 1: Module Introduction No Notes Week 2:   Conceptual World Building World Building World building is a fictional place where the characters will live, work, and play.  All pieces of fictional media starts off with world building. Draws heavy inspiration from our own world. There are two main approaches to world building: Approach 1: You have a story but no world There should be one or two key functions that the character must fulfill. Work out these functions then craft the remaining elements of our wolrd by paying special attention to how the key functions affetc one another, Approach 2: You have a world but no characters Create increasingly specifric details for the world. Boundaries become territories, become countries, become governments and cultures and so on. Authors who use this technique make their wor...

Intercultural Design - Compilation

05.02.2024 - 22.03.2024 / Week 01 - Week 07 Ilhan Rayan bin Khairul Anwar / 0361205 Intercultural Design / Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Creative Media Project 1, 2, 3 Compilation INSTRUCTIONS PRACTICAL Project 1 - Proposal For our first project, we were tasked with creating a proposal for a design based on the theme of "Cultural Sensitivity in Design." We had to study a cultural phenomenon or a subculture that is perceived as 'sensitive' and frame it within our study. We then had to create a presentable interpretation and adaptation of it without altering the facts in order to raise awareness from the viewers. Because we didn't have a specific timeframe for our project, I came up with an idea of doing something related to the Japanese invasion of Malaysia since it's a topic deeply sensitive with a lot of the older generations as it drastically affected Malaysia. At the time I thought this was a good idea but looking back I realise that this idea could not h...

I've learnt a lot of the important design principles that I will need for my specialisation as well as any design works that I create in the future. What did I enjoy the most? I enjoyed designing my artwork in Task 3 the most as I felt like I was actually doing something by designing and drawing instead of just watching videos about the design principles and writing down what I see. What did I not enjoy the most? There wasn't much from this module that I didn't enjoy, I enjoyed Task 3 and I didn't mind writing about the design principles that I found in the artwork that I ...

Design Principles - TASK 3 (Design)

05.03.2024 - 21.03.2024 / Week 05 - Week 07 Ilhan Rayan bin Khairul Anwar / 0361205 Design Principles / Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Creative Media Task 3 - Design INSTRUCTIONS PRACTICAL For Task 3, we were given the task of producing our own work of design that is either inspired / influenced by the work we analysed or a reaction to it. We are allowed to use any medium for the design and any materials as long as we can convey a visual message. Part 1: Sketching To start, I created a few sketches of what I had in mind based off of the design that I analysed in Task 1 and 2. Figure 1.1: Sketch 1 (07/03/24) For my first sketch, I wanted to follow up on the idea of nature thriving despite harsh environments so I drew a daffodil growing in an environment that is completely and utterly destroyed and devoid of life as seen with the burned buildings, trees, and fire in the background. I added in a human in an astronaut suit similar to the human from the design I analysed as I wanted to hav...

Design Principles - TASK 2 (Visual Analysis)

20.02.2024 - 05.03.2024 / Week 03 - Week 05 Ilhan Rayan bin Khairul Anwar / 0361205 Design Principles / Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Creative Media Task 2 - Visual Analysis LECTURES   Topic 6: Visual Analysis Visual Analysis  is a method of understanding designs that focus on visual elements and principles and recognising the choices a designer makes in their designs in order to communicate ideas, content or meanings. Visual Analysis is a critical part of visual literacy, a skill that helps people critically interpret images wherever they see them, such as on social media, in entertainment, advertisements, the news, or elsewhere. We are constantly confronted with visual media thanks to modern day technology and so practicing visual analysis can sharpen our critical thinking and judgemental skills so we can seek out answers rather than passively receiving information. Visual Analysis has three phases:  Observation ,  Analysis , and  Interpretation. Observ...

Designs must always be well thought-out and executed. There are seven elements of design, those being: Point The simplest element of design. A point used as a repetitive mark forms a line. As the point moves in space, other 2D and 3D figures are created Line They can be active, static, passive, aggressive, sensual, or mechanical. They can indicate directions, define boundaries of shapes and spaces, imply volumes or solid masses, and suggest motion or emotion. Can be grouped together depict qualities of light and shadow as well as patterns and textures. Shape Refers to the expanse within the outline of 2D area or within a 3D object. Becomes visible w...
