Assignment 4 - Research Design // Primary Data
INSTRUCTIONS
PRACTICAL
For our Assignment 4, we had do the following:
The research reflection report comprises the entire research project (the research proposal, critical review of secondary research and research design (primary data and analysis). The report will be accompanied by a reflection which finalises the research journey.
Requirements
1. A final report in the form of PowerPoint slides that must include the following:
a) Research Proposal (the improved version IF necessary)
b) Critical Review (the improved version IF necessary)
c) Primary data & analysis (the improved version IF necessary)
d) Reference list in APA style (p.5), 7th edition
e) A detailed reflection for this module based on these criteria:
Experience, Observation and Findings.
2. A 5- to 8-minute recorded video presentation of the PowerPoint slides. We recommend doing this in Zoom as it is straightforward. You are to abide by the following:

a) Your presentation slides design should allocate a space for the video.
b) Your face must be seen, and your real voice must be audible in the
video.
c) AI generative tools for video presentation are not permitted. The penalty for doing so will result in an F grade.
While I was compiling all of my projects together, I decided to do all of my primary data analysis as I noticed it was quite lacklustre overall and didn't have much of a detailed analysis. I also chose to do it all in a Google Slide instead as I noticed many other students were using it as well and our lecturer was fine with that.

Once that was done I recorded a video of myself talking over the whole thing, I didn't know how to conduct the video as they never provided us with any details or guide on how to film it, only that it had to be between 5-8 minutes.

It should be noted that I was feeling a bit sick while filming this and I was running short on time so the way I sound in the video is due to that.

REFLECTION
Experience
I found this module to be a bit nostalgic for me as I used to do this kind of work quite often back in high school for a lot of my classes so being able to do this again after a while was quite nice. Having this module be conducted online was an interesting choice as I felt it could have worked much better in person so that the lecturer could more easily assist the students with their work. I found some of the limitations for this module to be quite annoying as I believe that they were restraining us from being able to provide better data, such as how we were limited to only using articles from the past five years, which was a bit difficult for me as some articles that discussed and talked about my topic went over the time limit. But overall my experience with this module was great, granted I do feel like I could have chosen a topic a bit more entertainment design orientated but I’m happy with what I have and I’m excited to expand more upon this in the follow-up module, Design Research Dissertation, I’m used to writing research essays so this should be interesting.
Observations
One thing that I noticed during this module was how I could better format and compartmentalise my research process overall as the process we followed for this module was quite effective. By starting off with brainstorming our ideas, topics, the issues, the research objectives and questions, we can then much more easily look for articles that support our claims before conducting further research on this topic. Another thing that I noticed during this module was the variety of different topics people were able to come up with for their specialisation, especially for the individuals who weren’t doing Ui/Ux as I noticed they had to be a bit more creative with their work.
Findings
The research that I conducted for my topic was quite eye-opening for me as I already knew about the issues that indigenous cultures faced from what I learned in high school but being able to go further in depth with these issues and see the whole picture made me even more invested with my topic. While it may be a bit difficult for me to connect this back to Entertainment Design I do plan on researching more on the characters people mentioned to see what design elements they shared so I can gain an understanding of what made them popular. I also found collecting respondent data a bit difficult as I didn’t want to feel desperate when it came to collecting my data but at the same time I wanted to have at least a large amount of responses so that my data analysis looks nicer.
