INSTRUCTIONS
PRACTICAL
For Project 2, we had to work on one specific area of the building's interior rather than trying to design the entire interior as that would take too long. I already knew what I was going to design and it was going to be an interior location featuring the Worldmind, a giant supercomputer that's vital to the planet.
Figure 1.1: Interior First Sketch |
My first sketch of the interior was heavily inspired by The British Museum, which was the set they used when filming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which used this location as the headquarters for the Illuminati. I figured that it would make sense to reuse this location for my own design as the open space worked great for the PVP style of gameplay. However I realized that I wasn't focusing on the area that I wanted, which was the Worldmind so I scrapped this idea entirely.
Figure 1.2: New Interior Location Sketch |
Using an old Overwatch map that is no longer being used as my base, I used that to create the outline of the interior and where the Worldmind is set. This overall turned out to be great as it's already designed for PVP-styled environments which benefits me. However the low angle of this turned me off so I went back and used a different angle which provided a better view of the whole interior.
Figure 1.3: New Interior Angle |
With a new angle that I was satisfied with, I started adding in my own details like the giant logo on the floor and the Worldmind head on a giant TV screen.
Figure 1.4: Shading Added |
With the basic design mostly done, I started adding in all of the shading which caused the whole location to become a lot darker. I also decided to just colour in the logo and Worldmind since I already had the gold colour ready from the previous project.
Figure 1.5: Colour Added |
With the shading basically done, I started to add in all of the colours for the interior, which featured primarily dark greys, blues and gave a cold feel which makes sense thematically. I also added a lot more panels to the interior to enhance the Sci-fi aesthetic of the location.
REFLECTION
I found this project to be a bit more interesting that Project 1 as I really like coming with ideas for interiors and seeing what I can add to make it interesting. Granted, my artistic skills are not the greatest so I rely heavily on crutches like having bases that I can use for the design which are alright but in the future I want to be able to design everything on my own. I do like how this ended up though, especially with the giant screen, I just need to add more details to make it obvious it's a giant tv screen and not a poster.
