Digital Photography & Imaging - Week 3

Lecture Our lecture for this week introduced us to the three tools that we will be primarily using for this course. The Lasso Tool, Pen Tool, and the Layers feature. Lasso Tool: - A tool that allows for us to draw and outline around specific elements that we want to use from an image and extract them out, allowing for us to rearrange it and use it however we envision. Pen Tool: - A tool that allows for us to create points around an image through clicking and dragging. This tool is great for curved surfaces that may be difficult to outline with the lasso tool. The fewer points we have with this tool, the smoother it'll look. - The pen tool also has a feature known as the Magic Wand, which automatically highlights specific areas and deletes them. This is a great feature for when you need to remove a background and create a transparent png. It is not very effective for specific details however as the computer has to calculate what becomes highlighted. Layers: - Layers are different im...

Lecture Our lecture for this week introduced us to four basic composition components, those being: Focal Points: - A specific point that helps the viewer focus on the primary and most important element being presented to them. Scale & Hierarchy: - Scale is used to help draw the viewer towards the more important aspects of a piece and draw them away from the less important elements. This is used to help signify importance with the communication. Element Balancing: - Element balancing is the idea of giving certain elements "weight" in a piece. - Giving certain aspects more weight increases their importance within the piece. - Element balancing is useful for asymmetrical designs. White Space: - White space, also known as "empty space," is a much simpler component that helps to balance the focus of a composition. Due to the empty space that it brings, it forces the viewer to focus on other aspects that break the pattern of white space. - White space can be used boos...

Lecture We were introduced to Digital Photography & Imaging, what it is and the content that we will be learning throughout the class, such as how to use photoshop as well as the different projects we will have to do. Tutorial We were introduced to Google Classroom, which will be the main site that we will use to submit our work as well as search for previous weeks' content. We were then informed about the first exercise that we will work on between Weeks 1-3, where we have to create a collage using cut out images from magazines, newspapers, and other physical pieces of media for us to then put together into a collage. The purpose of this exercise is to give us the understanding that if we are able to create something physical, we can create something digital as well as we possess the creative knowledge to do so. We were also introduced to previous students' collages to inspire us. Instructions Practical For our practical assignment for this week, we had to find three graph...
