PRACTICAL (MY WORK)

Logo Design
Since I was an Entertainment Design student, me and my teammate were tasked with coming up with and designing a logo for the X Board product. However I was very confused early on as I kept on hearing conflicting messages on what we're supposed to design as one person said we had to do the logo for the product but another was saying it was for the company so that was what I worked on while my teammate did the logo.

Figure 1.1: Original X-Board Logo Process

After digitizing and refining the logo sketch given to me, I made small adjustments to make the design a lot neater such as aligning all the letters together and making sure they fit nicely. After this I started working on designing logos for the company as that was what my groupmates were telling me to do so I went with it.

Figure 1.3: Expedio Logo 2nd Sketches

Figures 1.2 and 1.3 are the sketches that I came up with for what the new logo could look like and we agreed that we needed to keep the X aspect as it's a crucial part of the logo design. As for where we could take the design forwards, we wanted to try and add an arrow into the design as we wanted to give the idea that the company is about moving forwards.

Figure 1.4: Expedio letter variations

After some advice from one of our teammates saying that we should stick as close as possible to the original logo so that the customers would already be familiar with the design, I researched on what the font they used on the website was, typed out the phrase "expedio," screenshotted it as I couldn't download it due to requiring payment. and traced it on my iPad. I came up with small differences to get the opinions of my team so we could agree on what would be best. We decided on the middle design as it looked the best overall and was the cleanest.

Figure 1.5: Expedio logo (Default text)

After agreeing on how the rest of the body text should look, I added in a regular X just to see how it looked and it looked quite boring.

Figure 1.6: Expedio logo (Special X)

After discussing with my team again, we decided to try and do something special with the X so we made one line longer than the other to make it look similar to the original logo. It was here where we decided we should just use the original X logo since it looks fine already.

After completing the design, we asked for feedback and were told that we had to design a logo for the product, not the actual company, so I repurposed the pre-existing letters since most of them could be rotated to replace the other letters that I needed. The only one that I had to draw was the letter R since that wasn't part of "expedio."

Email Campaign
After completing the logo, I moved onto designing the email campaign as we still had that to design what it would look like for the marketing.

Figure 2.1: Email First Design

After some time researching and looking at email campaign layouts, I found one that I felt would have worked well for what we had in mind. Using that as a template, I first designed the "Thank you for purchasing" email since that one was the most important as it featured the product in it.

Figure 2.2: Three Email Designs

From there I designed the "Thank you for registering" email as well as a promotional email detailing upcoming products and deals the company would have. I removed the red because I noticed on their original website they mainly used black and white. But after looking at the website redesign my team made I added in red elements to the lines to give it more flavour.

Figure 2.3: Email Progress

After adding in the red elements I asked my team for feedback and they recommended thinning the red lines so it would be in line with their website design. I also removed the red line in the header so it would just be the logo which looks a lot cleaner, as seen in Figure 2.4.

Figure 2.4: Email Progress v2

After that it was mainly making small adjustments like aligning the text and creating more space so it looked neater.

Figure 2.5: Email Progress Final

After all that was done this was the design layout we came up with for the emails.

Figure 2.6: Invoice and Order Delivery email

During the presentation one of the earlier groups had email designs detailing the invoice email as well as an "order on the way" email which my group didn't have as we never discussed it. So I made quick mockups of the designs using what I already had as a blueprint.

REFLECTION

Experience
I found this module to be a very interesting experience, it was cool getting to experience a more hands-on job with helping a studio with their products. It felt like a simple but tough introduction to the kind of work we can expect in the future, especially when it comes to presenting what we have to the clients. I always enjoy working in groups as it's a great way to build teambuilding with one-another as well as improving our productive skills.

Observation
I found that utilizing your time properly with this module is a much more crucial element compared to other modules as there is a large amount of work that needs to be done with the group that can't be delayed to a later date unlike other modules. Getting to experience this kind of stress is a good learning experience and is another step towards overcoming my procrastinative behavior.

Findings
Overall I found this module to be quite challenging as it felt like there was much more weight with our work compared to previous modules as what we're doing could actually have an impact. I enjoyed working in a group as it makes the module a lot more bearable as having to do this alone would be torturous and impossible.
